Sharing Lived Experience: EMERALD’s PPI Chair Eben Stewart on The Equity Podcast
We’re incredibly proud to see our Patient & Public Involvement (PPI) Chair, Eben Stewart, featured in a powerful conversation on The Equity Podcast with Grant Longwe. The podcast, created by a Global Brain Health Institute (GBHI) Atlantic Fellow, explores issues of equity, lived experience, and inclusion across health and society.
In this episode, Eben speaks with honesty and courage about his journey following his wife’s diagnosis of young-onset Lewy body dementia. He reflects on the emotional and physical realities of caregiving, the impact of burnout, and the often unspoken challenges faced by men in caring roles. His story is a moving reminder of how lived experience can reshape identity while also driving advocacy, connection, and change.
Eben highlights what Lewy body dementia looks like beyond the diagnosis, the importance of early awareness and education, and the vital role of support networks. He also draws attention to the need to better recognise and support carers’ mental health.
Eben’s voice powerfully demonstrates why PPI matters: bringing real experiences to the forefront of research, awareness, and support.
