To mark World Lewy Body Dementia Day, EMERALD-Lewy hosted a public awareness and engagement event at UNIT 18, Trinity College Dublin. The event brought together researchers, people with lived experience, students, and members of the public to raise awareness and deepen understanding of this often-overlooked condition.
Throughout the day, visitors explored a range of interactive and educational activities. The Lewy Classroom offered an opportunity to hear directly from EMERALD-Lewy researchers about current work and emerging breakthroughs in Lewy body dementia. At the Interactive Game Station, participants engaged with hands-on activities, including a Jenga game with an unexpected twist.
An Arts in Health exhibition showcased powerful poetry and photography co-created with people living with Lewy body dementia, while members of EMERALD-Lewy’s PPI team facilitated meaningful conversations about the realities of living with the condition. A guided movement and storytelling workshop, delivered in collaboration with the Abbey Theatre, added a creative and reflective dimension to the programme. A sensory room was also available throughout the day, offering a calm and supportive space.
We were especially delighted to welcome 80 Trinity Access Programme primary school students, whose energy and creativity shone through in the beautiful artwork they created while learning about Lewy body dementia.
